Pain itself is an essential factor in human evolution. Acute pain is our body’s way of telling us something is wrong. How would we have survived if we were not given that warning?
For most of us, and especially as we age, it is the other types of pain that cause such agony, loss of sleep, anxiety & stress, and depression.
Tablets and creams can only take us so far through the day or night’s sleep. Fibromyalgia, Headaches, Muscle Aches, Migraines, and other age-associated pain, including Arthritis, joint pain, and nerve pain.
The brain interprets pain through a complex process. Pain signals are transmitted through nerve pathways to the brain, which is processed by the thalamus and then sent to the somatosensory cortex. This part of the brain processes the signals and interprets them as painful sensations.
Thoughts, emotions, and memories also influence painful sensations. For example, if someone experiences a traumatic event, the brain can interpret the pain differently than if the same person experienced a pleasant event.
Think about your relationship with pain; as a child, did you find that you got much more attention from your parents without realizing it until you were much older? Looking back, this was the only way you were loved, praised, etc.
Depending on how long you may have lived with pain, you may use the term “My Pain.” and it’s essential to understand that taking ownership can affect your brain’s relationship with pain.
During our pre-session, we will discuss your relationship with your parents, your place within the family dynamic, and how you currently view your place in the world. All these factors can help me understand how the healing process needs to start and how I can help you be free from pain.
